Science Department
Head Of Department: Mr Reilly
The Science Department has 9 newly furnished/built laboratories that are all equipped with interactive whiteboards. There are 10 members of the department who all teach their specialism at GCSE and AS/A2. The department has three very well qualified support staff that provide apparatus for experiments and are responsible for the ordering and maintenance of equipment.
At KS3 the students follow the QCA scheme of work which prepares them for their SAT's in Yr 9
In Yrs 7 & 8 the students are taught in either mixed ability groups or small teaching groups for students who need extra support.
In Yr 9 the students are placed in sets based on their progress during yrs 7 & 8 with classes targeted at the 5-7 or 3-6 SAT's papers.
In Yr 10 the students study for their first GCSE in 'Core Science'. This is not certificated until Yr 11 to allow students to re-sit modules.
In Yr 11 the students undertake a second GCSE in 'Additional Science'.
From September 2008 we may offer a small number of students the opportunity to study Biology, Chemistry and Physics to GCSE.

At AS/A2 the Department offers Human Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
The department is proud of its examination results but we always strive to achieve better.
