Dance Department
Head of Department:
Dance is one of the most popular extra-curricular activities with over 120 students attending clubs on a weekly basis. Dance is equally popular with the boys as well as the girls. Dance at South Wirral was awarded the "Schools Extra Award" a National Award and has been recognised as being one of the many strengths of our school.
Students in Yr 7 and 8 have one hour of dance a week and experience a range of dance styles such as: Contemporary, Street Dance, African, Hip Hop, Jazz, Irish, Break-Dance, Rock and Roll and dance with a selection of props i.e. chairs, masks, canes etc.
At Key Stage 4 students can opt to take GCSE Dance and Applied Performing Arts which is worth 2 GCSE's involving Dance and Drama combined.
South Wirral High School has its own Dance Company 'Vision Dance Company' which is often called upon to open ceremonies or dance at conferences. Recently South Wirral's Vision Dance Company won 4th place in a regional competition, entered by only private dance schools. Students are given endless opportunities to show off their dancing talents, performing in the last two years at The Philharmonic Hall Liverpool, Liverpool Empire, Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, Pacific Road in Birkenhead, The Floral Pavilion in New Brighton and Wallasey Town Hall.
